President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović paid an official visit to Estonia last week. Milatović met with President of Estonia Alar Karis, Prime Minister Kristen Michal and Speaker of the Estonian Parliament Lauri Hussar. The meetings were attended by Estonia’s ambassador to Montenegro Raul Toomas.
In addition to Montenegro’s path towards the EU membership, their talks focused, among other things, on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, digitalisation, education, and artificial intelligence. Milatović described Estonia as a model for Montenegro in the field of digital transformation and the development of efficient electronic public administration. He also thanked Estonia for its consistent support for Montenegro’s European perspective, stressing that EU membership remains one of the country’s key strategic goals.
On Saturday, Milatović attended a discussion on the resilience of small states at the Lennart Meri Conference (“Building Forward: Small but Resilient”), opened by president Alar Karis.
Montenegro and Estonia maintain close and friendly relations based on mutual trust, shared values and a common European and Euro-Atlantic orientation.
