Estonia in the United Nations Human Rights Council

UN Human Rights Council

On 14 October, Estonia was elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2026–2028 term.
Human rights are at the heart of Estonia’s foreign policy. We actively advocate for every person – regardless of nationality, gender, age, identity, or beliefs – to live a dignified life in a free world.
During our membership, we will pay particular attention to three key areas:
– Protecting children’s rights, especially in armed conflicts;
– Safeguarding human rights in the digital space;
– Defending freedom of speech and expression, and protecting journalists.
In addition, we will continue to promote women’s rights, highlight the connection between the climate crisis and human rights, and work to combat impunity.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Estonia on this journey!
